It’s a daunting thought being in the limelight, with everyone knowing every detail about you – like a famous person but without the perks of money! Putting yourself out there may seem scary, but it needn’t be. Here I share tips on how to face the fear and put yourself out there..
Stuck On How to Put Yourself Out There?
I recently started this blog, but let me tell you the truth, my website was ‘live’ for about 10 months until I decided to finally take action.
OK I may have been raising a small human – but still, I had time to distract myself; Netflix and endless YouTube videos were consumed in the hopes that I might find my direction. I didn’t really find my path in the end, I just wasted some time.
But I was stuck! I didn’t know how to start! Plus coming to grips with the idea that I am a stay at home mum made me panic on what I could even offer to the big wide world out there!
In my previous entrepreneur life, I was a designer for my own fashion brand and would model the clothing I made. I really ‘put myself out there’, so why can’t I do it now?
Ten years later, in my mid thirties I feel like I’ve gone backwards…not forwards – I thought getting older was supposed to make you wiser and more confident?
So now I’m back at square one. I wrote a feel-good novel (pre-baby) and I’m now to do the marketing strategy behind it, but I still feel hesitant and unsure of how to begin….
But here I am – writing these words and hoping dear reader, you resonate too?
Why Are You So Scared To Face Your Fear?
Failure! Stepping out into the cold and unknown is scary, whereas staying in a safe environment that you know is comfy and reassuring. But even if you think you’ve failed somehow in life, it’s those times are the most valuable. We learn our biggest lessons from the mistakes we make.
I ‘failed’ at college, I believed I was not the best dressmaker in our class and was even advised by my tutors that if I was lucky I might be able to become a ‘costume assistant’ in theatre. So this spurred me on to do my own thing, create my own path and become a designer in my own right. Which I did! Gaining press, customers and even winning an award.
Anyway, my failure was turned into my motivation.
What’s the worst that could happen
Maybe you might stumble, maybe you might fall – but you’ll get back up again.
Don’t watch from the side lines and judge other peoples lives without the courage to make your own mistakes
I absolutely get it, I am there too debating whether I should or shouldn’t. But I see now, life is too short – just do it!
Tips To Put Yourself Out There – Face Your Fear:
Whether this is for your business or personal life, here’s some ways/thoughts I’ve found that help me be more courageous. This is purely for self development, and to be comfortable in your own skin.
- Get out of your head – whatever you’re doing you need to look at other things in your life. Perhaps start a new hobby or activity.
- People really don’t care – this sounds blunt and harsh sounding, but people really don’t pay enough attention to see if you ‘fail’ anyway
- Get out of your comfort zone. Contact someone on social media you follow and let them know you love their work, or ask that colleague at work out for a coffee.
Good luck, let’s see what we can both achieve by putting ourselves out there, dear reader.
