Are humans split into two kinds of people – creative and non-creative? We often believe that only some are creative, and close our minds to the idea that everyone has this capability. I look into ways on How To Be Creative When You Don’t Think You Are.
Post warning!
I may say ‘Creative’ a thousand times! Apologies in advance.
In a past job, I worked in an art gallery. The types of art we would display would be so varied, their different styles in crafts such as painting, ceramics, woodwork and sculpture. I would wonder how they developed their style. How did they start painting in such a way? Were they always creative or did they need to work at it?
Most of the time people who are creative, always were creative in some ways.
But I believe everyone is creative in some way, some may just need to work at it a little more.
In the art gallery I would observe customers view the art. For some, it was like witnessing them fall in love for the first time; completely lost in the beauty of a piece. Whereas other people would look at the same piece and continue walking past without a second glance.
All the while working at the art gallery I had been writing in my spare time, and sewing my own fashion designs that would be worn by clients. The funny thing is, creating stories and garments with my hands – I never saw as art. It was just a thing I simply needed to do – if I did not then something in me felt empty. Even now, everyday I need to do something creative – produce art no matter how small, in order to make me feel more me.
Anyway, I digress!
We can all be different in creative ways. Writing, painting, gardening, cooking, singing – we can incorporate simple acts of creativity in our daily lives – we don’t need to paint a landscape to prove it!
Why do we not want to pursue creativity?
Don’t hide away and make excuses, if you are blocking yourself from creativity because of fear, that’s no way to live. Enjoy a carefree life by taking chances, finding love in the small things and expressing yourself.
Creativity is not for some, its for everyone.
Below are my steps on how to be more / or to find your creative self.
Tips On How To Be Creative If You Don’t Think You’re Creative
Quiet time. Allow yourself some peace – take a walk and ponder these questions. Exercise can increase blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which can help if you want to become inspired. What have I always wished I could create? If I could be good at any particular creative thing would would it be?
Be curious. Maybe you’re still not exactly sure what you want to do. So try exploring, pay attention to what gives you a flurry of excitement or intrigue. Allow yourself to become bored – hide your phone if you keep distracting yourself. Creativity comes from boredom!
Build confidence. Take little steps. Try giving things a go. Say you want to paint your dressing table a colour, perhaps you could look on Pinterest to find ideas. Then start small, could you paint a plant pot first and get confidence?
Little pockets of time. You may not have much time to dedicate to being creative. Don’t worry, that’s OK – you give the time you have. If you only have ten minutes a day then doing something is better than doing nothing. Don’t let the excuse of having no time be the reason for not being creative.
Nurture. You need to protect that inner child. If you mess up something – you cook that dish you were wanting to try for weeks, then everything came out wrong. Try not to talk to yourself negatively, instead look for the positives – isnt it better you are trying than not doing anything at all? Perhaps if you attempted the dish in another week, you may learn from your previous mistakes. Fun can be found in the errors!
