Fate, Destiny, It’s written in the stars – the idea that if something is meant for you, then it will happen. Particularly around lovelife and career…we tend to use these terms so we don’t need to worry if we stray off the path, we will just get back on the right path when we’re supposed to. Do you believe in this? I didn’t, but now I see things have happened in my life for a reason. What’s For You, Will Come To You – How To Trust & Accept…
My Story
I used to have my own fashion label. I loved it – it was exciting and a big achievement. It brought me lots of experiences and job satisfaction – I won awards, took part in fashion shows and was featured in various magazines and newspapers in numerous countries. I was inspired and things were slotting into place.
Then I moved to another country. Things were still good, but they were different….and soon I saw the cracks
I had my own studio space in a trendy warehouse with other creatives, had clients and took part in shows. It was still exciting, but the climate wasn’t exactly the best for my clothing. If you can believe it, the weather affected my business. You see I specialised in tweed (wool), so in Scotland, you could wear it almost all year round! But in Melbourne Australia, as much as they did have winters..they were not nearly as cold to justify buying thick wool fabric.
The whole basis of my fashion label was tweed, and now it was becoming apparent that it was difficult to get (with me buying and getting tweed shipped across the world..which seemed mad!).
My market audience wasn’t there..and I fought against it.
I had started to find that I was pushing. Pushing so hard at times, which came to a head when I had a death in my family. This spiralled into burnout.
I couldnt go back.
I couldnt face fashion anymore, so to speak. Even my interest in colours and clothes had dwindled away.
Motherhood Arrived
Once I became a mother, things changed even more. Not long after my business had been put ‘on hold’, I had a baby. A wonderful, special time experiencing new life as a mother. But with that came sleepless nights and barely anytime to do anything..as most mothers find out.
But on those few moments I would get during the baby’s nap-time, made me realise I needed to do something for me. Not scroll my phone watching videos of kittens (Not that I don’t enjoy those too!), but I needed to do something that nourished my soul. So I started writing, a few sentences here and there while my baby slept.
This really helped me focus on other things and feed my interest and curiosity again.
Seeing What Was Meant For Me
If I didn’t go through the death of a family member, I would have kept working on my clothing label. Which would have been fine, but I don’t know how long I would have kept pushing until I realised that I had fallen out of love with it.
Things did not flow, they did not feel balanced. I felt like I had to keep pushing and pushing to get anywhere.
Comparing it to how I am now – my writing comes so much more freely to me.
And what’s more, I just couldn’t have a fashion label now. I am in-between homes, which means I have little space for myself. No space for equipment, particularly my huge sewing machine that takes up a wall space!
The great thing about writing – all I need is my computer. That’s it! I believe writing was meant to come to me…but this was the time that was right for me to write.
Writing was always going to come for me, but I needed to go through life – gain experiences, learn from my mistakes, learn more about myself to be able to write from a place that’s authentic and true.
What’s For You, Will Come To You – How to trust that you will get there
My thoughts on how to stay in the zone…
Don’t fight it, it’ll come
Whatever you might think you want now, it just might not be the right time. Perhaps you need to experience more, overcome obstacles, grow more as the person you’re meant to become. Slow down, rest, try not to force anything. Allow yourself to be carried to a place of clarity. Trust that it will come and enjoy the journey along the way.
If we all got to our destination immediately and the place we want to be – then there would be no gratitude of getting there.
You’d be at the station, looking to go on your next journey!
Trust it will come
Reflect on what makes you happy. Create time to allow your mind to settle. Whether it be meditations or just sitting outside in nature. These moments are crucial to check-in with yourself. Reflect and ponder what fills you with inspiration, excitement, joy. Answers will come, or if not answers then feelings towards something… it’s like uncovering a secret, or lifting a stone on the beach to find underneath is teeming with life!
If you keep ‘busy’ and distracted, the constant treadmill will just stay that way. Constant. Find your joy, take time out.
Be curious and open to receiving
If any opportunities arise, (even ones that have nothing to do with what you think you want to do) – keep your eyes open, and open to be guided. Much like the laws of attraction (see my post on this), to get the things you want, you need to take action. There is ACTION in the laws of attraction. So when you get a gut-feeling, or meet someone you find a connection with, keep open for any possibilites. Don’t shut yourself off, things come from little actions.
What Now?
Take the take to explore your inner thoughts and fears. Spending time on inner work is the key to open up a clearer path ahead. You don’t need to be in control of everything. I have to tell myself this too – loosing control feels like I am becoming undone. But I’ve learned to accept this the hard way, in recent years – I can’t control everything. You can’t control everything. It’s time to let the wind carry you, even just a little bit. Like a kite, it need’s the winds’ support to rise. Stay open to the many possibilities that will come your way and trust that it will do so in the right timing.

Have you been fighting against yourself? Do you want to be somewhere but you can’t get there? I’d love to hear how you found your flow…
