It’s important to stay in touch with your thoughts, we can spend our lives distracted by actions we made in our past or by focusing on our future – not paying any attention to the here and now. I look at 3 Easy Mindful Practises For Everyday Well Being for busy women, that you can implement today.
Recently I’ve found myself wound-up, irritable and stressed about little things. I would find that I would talk to myself:
“Why is no-one helping?”
“My days are so repetitive, It’s driving me mad”
“I get no thanks for the work I do”
“No-one cares or bothers to contact me”
Yes I’ve felt these, and writing them down now I can feel the anger that once was. But taking a step back, I actually see why I was annoyed – and it had nothing to do with those angry thoughts above.
Quality Time – Out
3 Easy Mindful Practises For Everyday Well Being
What makes you happy? Having a coffee and watching a show on Netflix? Do it! Going for a walk then taking a long shower? Do it!
You need to make time for yourself, make it happen. If you have kids – then ask for help/babysitter.
A helpful tip – don’t put pressure on yourself that you must enjoy that ‘time-out’ – sometimes it can take a few tries, but you do need to put yourself in the position where you’re not thinking of others and doing something completely for you.
Why we can’t let go?
Mindfulness is often put into the same category as self-care.
but isn’t self care is selfish?
This is something that women struggle with, and in particular the age-group 35-50 years are one of the lowest to practise self-care daily according to Women’s Health Survey in Australia. Making time for a bath, watching a movie or reading a book is seen as unachievable for today’s woman.
This could be attributed to a number of factors – balancing busy work/family life and always being available with our mobile phones.
What is mindfulness & Why is it important?
Mindfulness is an ancient practice that comes from Buddhism – to experience the present without judgement.
Mindfulness is to be conscious of your mind and body, to just ‘be’ without distractions.
When practising mindfulness we tune into our bodies, and acknowledge how we feel.
This might sound easy and very boring, is it worth it?
Yes
In today’s world, we are constantly multitasking, focusing our minds on a million other things. It is important to take time out and acknowledge who you are and how you’re feeling. We are emotional beings – we can’t operate like robots…no matter if society would like us to.
3 Easy Mindful Practises For Everyday Well Being
Below are some of my suggestions on mindful practises that I do and you can too! Incorporate these into your day, with positive results such as healing irritability and negativity. I have kept in mind the busy lives we all lead, making these easy and simple steps to implement.
Before doing any of these, ensure you have your phone placed far away from you. Focus on the below, and try not to let your mind wonder to anything outside these practises. Relax your mind, leave stress at the door…
Morning
Slow drink. Take some time to be in your thoughts in the morning. Pour a drink, whether it be a glass of water, tea or coffee. I do this late morning, when my baby is having his nap – I sip my coffee, and enjoy the warmth of the mug in my hands. I taste the rich nutty coffee and look out the window; enjoying a simple moment of watching birds fluttering in-between the trees.
Afternoon
Slow breaths. Go somewhere quiet – take deep breaths in and out, relaxing your shoulders. Feel your breath rising in your chest, through your throat and nose. Be conscious of your breath, and do this for however long you like. I do this for five minutes, I set a timer on my phone and the time passes like a flash!
Evening
Slow music. Unwind with relaxing, soothing music. Give yourself ten minutes just laying on the couch/bed/floor and listen to the music. Perhaps you can make your own playlist on Spotify or Youtube, as your go-to music? Not into music? Try positive affirmations instead!
And that’s it! How easy are those? I’m aware these are very simple, but I don’t believe introducing a list of things to do, that’s when things will slip.
This way they are easy to implement and keep as part of your routine.
