Nurture Yourself – The Most Important Thing You Can Do Today

by ClaireGillies Leave a Comment

Life is hectic and chaotic. Things only appear to speed up rather than slow down. Things can become too much sometimes and instead of leaning in to the hustle, it’s your opportunity to hit the brakes. Nurture Yourself – The Most Important Thing You Can Do Today..

Let’s chat..

I have gone through life altering changes – a close family member passing away, which led to myself and my family relocating back to Scotland.

No home, no direction, and consuming grief…A sad time that drains every fraction of energy from me.

When you’re in the midst of something that is overwhelming, you focus all your energy and attention onto this aspect – which makes other things in your life slip.

Habits Slide Away

I have let many things go, without intending to. All my routines and good habits have disappeared. I have felt for the last few weeks that I am just getting through – surviving! I have no energy to eat let alone plan good habits – everything else has been paused.

But now I see that stopping these routines and habits has made me far worse.

The Good Habits:

Meditation

Good Sleep

Eating Nutritious Food

Writing

Exercise

Doing all the above things made me feel “me”

By not doing these things contributed and enhanced my stress, sadness, and exhaustion.

By not doing these, also made me feel worse and guilty – which was not fair on me either.

How To Nurture Yourself If You Have No Energy

When you have little energy to even begin to start ‘good habits’, start with the basics instead.

These might seem obvious, but the point here is that they are easy and the most important thing you can give your body at a difficult time:

Keep hydrated

Drink plenty of water. I like to have a bottle/cup with a lid on me – this way I consume more water throughout the day without needing to keep reminding myself to get a new glass for water each time.

Eat nutritious food

Good food is important. Fruits, vegetables and good meats. Taking foods high in iron too is important to keep you and your mindset healthy, as well as giving you more energy.

Take Vitamin D

You can take daily doses of Vitamin D in the form of a pill. Also spending time outside is a huge benefit, so if you can grab time in the sun, this will help your bones stay strong and ward off any potential illness (which can happen easily when you’re run down!)

You’ve got this

We can’t all be exceptional in difficult times, we are only coping. Prioritise your health and take care of your body during these times and the recovery will be smoother.
