It’s never too late to introduce a nighttime routine. Getting some shut eye early is essential to everyone, but it’s not just about having an early night…My Night Routine – How It’s Important For My Positive Mindset.
I recently wrote about My Morning Routine and How It’s Important For My Positive Mindset, and thought documenting my night routine was paramount for encouraging me to even wake early the next morning!
It’s something I overlooked, but now in my thirties and a mum….I need to have a good night’s sleep in order to have a good morning.
Why Have A Night Routine?
Night Habits
I look forward to my ‘me time’ at night, just as much as I look forward to them in the morning. It starts as early as dinner time for me. If I have dinner early, it means I have more of the evening to get all those jobs done and still enough time to have down time and plan for the next morning.
My Night Routine – How It’s Important For My Positive Mindset
My routine below may seem a little strict, but I’m fairly flexible with the times. This is just to make it clear and easy for you to follow:
6pm dinner – This is the start of the evening and important for the whole family to sit together.
7pm – Bathtime with baby finished and time to settle him down for the night.
7.30-8pm Dinner clearup and tidy away all the debris. With children…there can be oh so much still to do!
8pm – I get a shower and change into comfy clothes = heaven!
8.30-9pm – Downtime with hubby – chat/cup of tea/watch a little Netflix
9.15pm – Prepare for the next morning. I place my headphones, gratitude journal, pen, phone, and cardigan together in a bundle (everything I’ll need so I don’t make a noise looking for things the following morning).
9.30pm – When relaxing in bed, I think of all the little things that happened with my day. Just small moments to reflect on, making me appreciate everything. Nothing is too small here, it gets me in a good frame of mind before sleep too.
10pm- Read a novel and listen to relaxing classical music
I usually try to go to bed between 10.30-11pm. I could be better at this, but so far I find I am getting enough sleep and still eager to start my mornings from 6am.
I’m No Angel
Don’t get me wrong here. I drink wine, eat chocolate, love gin, love crisps! Basically all the bad things in life…I’m there in the front row! But with alcohol, I keep it to a minimum, especially during the week. If I have a glass of wine, I keep it early in the evening, and try not to exceed 8pm. I find I’m groggy in the mornings otherwise…which is so not worth having an extra glass of wine!
I keep this routine to the weekdays, the weekends I have other commitments and generally later nights – more socialising etc. So this works for me 4 days a week.
It Takes Organising
Being just a little more organised in the evening allows me to feel almost excited about starting the morning. Because I have everthing already prepared I have a spring in my step to get started with my day. Keeping check on what I eat and drink the previous night, along with reflecting on the good things from my day are the best ensurances my morning routine will go smoothly.
