Being creative might be something that’s always been a part of you, but maybe it’s beginning to feel like a struggle. Do you feel exhausted and that creativity has left you? Let’s look at – How To Keep Your Creativity Alive When You’re Blocked…
It’s difficult and highly unlikely to be consistently creative, life can get in the way and distract you from what you were creating.
We can sometimes hit a block on our path that can leave us unable to pivot. But that’s OK, creativity can’t be pushed..
Don’t loose hope immediately and throw in the towel – it will come back if you take a step back.
Time to slow
Are you spending more time over-thinking than getting into the flow of the process?
Are you making time for your creativity? Whatever your usual talent is – painting, writing, photography, editing – you need time to show yourself compassion.
Much like writing a book, some writers face ‘writers block’ – and it can happen to other creatives – although we don’t have the label of ‘writer’s block’ which carries so much weight and understanding. But much like writer’s block, creative juices can stop flowing too.
Take time to fill your creative cup once again…
Learn your ‘why’ behind your creativity
It’s time to stop and assess WHY you are doing this creative career.
Note down why you are doing this career:
Do you feel you need to use your hands to be happy?
Maybe you’ve left the corporate world and wanted to be home more for your kids?
There can be many reasons behind this, but perhaps you may discover a reason you hadn’t considered before. It will also make you realise what is important to you.
Take this time to write it down and become familiar with your WHY’s.
Once you’ve learned your WHY’S and become comfortable with them. They will serve you if ever you feel stuck – think on these points to help keep you focused in the difficult times.
Motivation does not lead to creativity
Motivation does not encourage creativity – if anything, it can put pressure on it and hinder any potential creative juices.
To create we need inspiration, what is your inspiration?
Personally, I have neglected my inspirations recently and have noticed the effect it’s had on me and my work. Music was a huge inspiration, and would encourage thoughts and curiosities within me, which led to an abundance of creativity. Being in nature too was essential for me, and although I have been walking everyday, I lost the intrigue. I had made the task of going out into nature more of a routine, without paying attention to my surroundings. I literally had not ‘stopped to smell the roses’.
So tap into what inspires you, really delve deep and don’t be afraid to explore.
Time Out To Fill Your Cup
By taking time out to do at least one thing that gives you joy each day will have a big effect on your mindset. What makes you feel nourished? For me it is music, walking in nature and stretching my body. Learn what energises you, forget about creativity for now…it will come back.
