by ClaireGillies Leave a Comment

Making a career out of something that you’ve created may sound like a big deal. Does it seem impossible? Are you indecisive at the thought of pursuing anything long-term? “Don’t Wait For Your Passion To Grow – Just Pick Something Now!” This is why you need to act and not wait another day!

It’s difficult to know what to pursue as a career. Maybe you have a full time job but want to create a side hustle, in the hopes of eventually leaving your 9-5? You have every right to be concerned about ‘your passion’ actually making you enough money to live…

“If a job’s worth doing it’s worth doing well”

Heard of this quote? Many of us may have been raised by it!

But this quote can be crippling. If you are a perfectionist, this is the last thing you want to hear – that whatever you do in this life, it must be done well!

Perfectionist Versus Procrastination

Are you researching endless YouTube videos? Learning the best ways to perfect your skills, planning what you want to do…but instead of actually doing, you’re stuck in this endless planning and dreaming stage?

Do you want to do the best work you possibly can before you even release it out into the world?

You can spend so much time in the first stage that you never make it to the second stage.

What I have learned is you need to do things – imperfectly! Put them out into the world and learn from it.

You might even realise that this project/side hustle is not what you want to do. Which is great news! That means you’re one step closer to discovering what you do want.

Pick something now – You don’t need to do it forever

This was a huge epiphany for me recently. I have been dabbling in some other business ideas, procrastinating about which one to pursue and if they had ‘legs’ to make it into a career. I found myself stuck, at a crossroads and I didn’t know which road to go down!

Then I heard “Just do something now – You don’t need to do it forever” – And it was like a release, a light-bulb going off in my head – of course it makes sense…just do something!

Stop thinking about the outcome – and focus on the process.

Don’t Wait For Your Passion To Grow – Just Pick Something Now!

Here’s some tips to get you closer to – just doing something now!

Overthinking gets you nowhere – you need to get out of your head.

This does not need to be a life-long career that is part of your identity. We are constantly changing as humans – learning new skills, gaining self improvement and new life experiences that shape our minds. Give yourself a break – stop thinking about it for a week, open your mind to other experiences and just enjoy living. So no business / career thoughts for a week, OK?!

Take a small step

Stop taking it seriously and give it a try! You will waste more time trying to perfect something. Just do something now. Take a small step today.

Planning on doing a podcast – write out what you will say, or record your intro.

If you want to write a book – write a paragraph, a page, a chapter.

Wanting to start a coaching business – set up your social media platforms.

Start small, but start now.
