I recently helped someone launch their business. They were wary of how to start social media, how to design a logo or even how to write a post on Facebook. These things I had struggled with in the early stages of business too, so I’ve compiled the below steps to help you start your business brand, when you can’t quite get it clear in your mind. Branding Your Side Hustle – How To Begin Your Simple Style. This will give you direction in just a few easy steps. It’s time to stop overthinking and start doing!
Words Behind Your Brand
Branding Your Side Hustle
Are you a bit hazy on what your branding should be?
Start by writing down ten words that you want your business to stand for.
This could be imagery you want to incorporate, a feeling, a vibe, make a list that encapsulates your ethos.
Now from the 10 words, select 5 of those from the list that really resonate with you. These will be the words that you will focus on for your brand.
Done? Great!
These words are the baseline for everything that follows for marketing.
If you keep these in your mind – your brand will become clearer. It will be easier to make decisions from this group of words and associations of your brand.
Colour Your Brand
Easy Ways To Create With Style
I advise using 3 colours for your brand. This can change down the line, but start with 3 first.
What colours do you like? What are you drawn to? Have a look at those five words you’ve selected for your brand, what colours come to mind?
If you are not sure about what colours go together, or even what colours to pick, I suggest you check out Pinterest. Type in the brand words you have come up with to see if anything sparks your imagination.
For example, type ‘Beach colours” “Beach colour palette” “Beach vibes” and you will bring up all manner of colours associated with these words. You will begin to see what colour suggestions look good to you. You may even get inspiration for more branding ideas such as photography subjects, styles and fonts.
Brand Logo
Deciding on a logo can be very time consuming. You can spend a whole day tweaking a design, then find you don’t really like it!
Choosing your logo is an ongoing process, look on it as something that will change and adapt with time.
What’s important right now, is that you’re clear on the other factors of your brand – the tone, the style, colours, name etc. The logo may change, and that’s fine!
You can create your own logo, give it a try on Canva.com.
You don’t need to be creative, anyone can use Canva. Just pick a template and tweak until you get the style that reflects your brand.
Tip: Give yourself an hour…2 hours at the most to do this! Anything more is a time suck.
Keep focused on your brand. This is just a bonus if you can make a logo!
An important thing to know – Less is more!
Pick Your Platform
Branding Your Side Hustle – How To Begin Your Simple Style
The main social media platforms used by businesses are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and now more recently Ticktock.
You don’t need to be on all these socials to experience good engagement and gain more customers.
If you are comfortable with using 2 of these, I would suggest to start there.
Try to enjoy using social media, use only the platforms you’re excited about, that way you’ll post more without thinking it’s a chore!
Keep in mind your colours and style of branding should carry onto these platforms.
