Inspiration is found everywhere. If you’re creative, you need to stop and look around. Not only to inspire your next project, but to “Nourish Your Mind, Body & Soul This Autumn Season” Take time to experience these fleeting moments..and what better time to enjoy than Autumn.
Do you find yourself still running, worrying that we’ll be in winter soon…then it’s Christmas! So much to plan, organise, school holidays! You can get caught up in the doing…that you forget to stop and take time to enjoy the seasonal beauty around.
Autumn is a special time of year. After summer, the gentle cooler winds blow, dragging leaves off the trees. Exposing. Slowing. But early autumn is even more special. The cold has not settled, the summer is still clinging on, (well hopefully if you’re lucky with the weather!) Early autumn goes hand in hand with slowness, harvest, and preparing for the winter.
“Nourish Your Mind, Body & Soul This Autumn Season”
Below are my suggestions to make the best of this Autumn/Fall time, to help make you thrive:
Write a list of what you would like to do during autumn time
This is not work related, it’s simply to put down enjoyable tasks that you wish to do this season. This can be for you only, or with others. I suggest mixing it up! Have you always wanted to make your own Halloween costume? Your kids’ costumes? Throw a party? Bake more? There are so many ways to enjoy autumn – but start somewhere first…list down your desires for the season. Don’t wait till next year. Start today!
Pluck Apples From The Trees
Right now is apple season (well, it is with me…depending on where you live that is!). It’s a beautiful way to spend an afternoon, especially with a friend. If you don’t have an apple tree, perhaps you have a relative/neighbour/friend who does? I often see people who have apple trees that don’t make any use of the apples…and just leave them to rot! Maybe come up with an exchange – suggest you’d send them a tart/jar of apple sauce if they permit you to gather some?
Go for a woodland walk to count the mushrooms.
I love the smell of a woodland in autumn. The fresh earthy aroma is so invigorating and yet calming. I pick shanterels, those pretty yellow mushrooms that sprinkle the forest floor. It’s important when you do pick mushrooms, that you do so with a basket rather than a bag. This allows the spores to fall from the mushrooms throw the holes in the basket, which will encourage more mushrooms to grow next year.
Note: Take care when picking mushrooms, some mushrooms look similar and can be poisioness.
Climb Through The Briar & Bramble
Pick rich brambles from a jaggy bush. Collect these in a small bucket, tied around your waist, and I recommend to wear an apron for all the juices that can stain. My favourite bramble desert is so easy. Simmer brambles in a pot with a little water and brown sugar until soft. Then spread out in an oven dish, and place marshmallows over the top. The result: a crispy marshmallow top and a sweet tangy underlayer. It’s autumn in a bite – reminding me of outdoor fires and seasonal berries.
Beauty Of The Slowness
Take time out. Spring and summer have been a blast, but autumn brings opportunity for being in the moment, reflection and watching nature change. Enjoy the slow and soulful moments that autumn brings. It’s time to appreciate what is around, switch off from the hustle and bustle and sink into the season.
